The Zodiac Lounge was first established in the late '60s when public house doors were opened to women. Traditionally, Irish pubs were a male redoubt. Some pubs had a dual function as a grocer where ladies would deliver their list and wait in a 'snug' while their order was filled. They might have a schooner of sherry or a glass of stout while they waited. All that changed in the '60s and although many pubs resisted the change, The Zodiac Lounge was typical of a growing trend with comfortable seating and attractive lighting to accommodate the new female customers. In time The Zodiac's role has changed. Now it's where you'll go to hear alternative rock music and hang out with a younger, more fashion discerning crowd. Recently decorated with icons of the era by contemporary artist, Gavin Murphy. The Zodiac also hosts The Zodiac Sessions, a Wednesday night open mic event for singer songwriters. Recent visitors to The Zodiac include Oasis, Paul Weller, 50 Cent, Depeche Mode.
